Merit Gold and Silver was one of the nation’s largest precious metals dealers with 28 years in business. On February 13, 2014, the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office filed a consumer protection lawsuit against the Santa Monica-based company. The City Attorney brought suit under California’s Unfair Competition Law, which protects consumers from false advertising, fraud, and other unlawful business practices. Merit Gold decided to cease operations without any advance notice in August 2014. The Merit Gold website is redirected to another precious metals company. Their social media platforms are abandoned and have not been updated for years. Merit clients may need services for buying or selling precious metals in their possession or their metal IRA.
